Redlands, California

Let’s get a couple confessions out right up front. First, my daughter Emily is a Swiftie. So when I passed this truck on my way to Los Angeles, I had to take a picture for her. Here is what she texted upon receiving the picture, and I quote exactly: “OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH! SO … Read more…

Last night at 10p I got a call from the repair shop telling me the motorhome was fixed. I was so looking forward to just taking my Jeep and leaving the motorhome behind for a week or two, it was actually disappointing they got it fixed so fast. Why did they have to work so … Read more…

Oakland, California

I went to this temple for the first time when I was 6 months old, but I don’t remember. The next time I was 12 years old. It was the first temple I ever entered, so it has a special place in my heart. I remember clearly feeling the peace of God there and wanting … Read more…

Sacramento, California

This temple is closed for maintenance until August 17, which explains why I’m not dressed up. I met more people at this temple than any other so far. When I arrived a family from Lincoln, California had just arrived with their children to walk around the temple. I asked them to take my picture. We … Read more…

Reno, Nevada

This temple is in the Nevada desert. You’ll see in the aerial video that it’s partially surrounded by a residential neighborhood and plain old desert. It’s up on a hill. My favorite shot in the aerial video is when I flew the drone up a hill towards the temple, then right over the temple. It’s … Read more…

Medford, Oregon

August 4, 2015August 7, 2015 by Damon Janis

Before embarking on this trip I’d never visited one of the “small” temples. I’m learning to appreciate them. Medford is the 3rd I’ve visited. They are beautiful like the larger temples but because they are small they are quick to get around and easy to figure out where to go. The Medford Oregon temple is … Read more…

Portland, Oregon

I wasn’t able to do volunteer work in this temple because it’s closed for maintenance. Rather than delay the trip I decided to visit anyway and take some pictures and aerial video. The visitor center was open. The husband and wife couple working there as missionaries are from Salt Lake City and have been here in … Read more…

Seattle, Washington

The fuel line repair took 5 days. I spent those days somewhat sequestered in a hotel. Going out and doing things didn’t have much appeal. So I did a lot of reflection and reading. I was able to come to some realizations about my life and get more clarity on some things I’ve been working … Read more…

Columbia River, Washington

When I signed up over the phone to do volunteer work at this temple, my name was written down as Damon Jamin. One of the workers, John Trevino, saw that and told me he has a son named Jamin. He thought it was pretty neat to see someone with the last name matching his son’s … Read more…

Leaking Diesel Fuel

July 25, 2015September 2, 2015 by Damon Janis

Yesterday I left Spokane, driving toward Richland where the temple is located. It’s a three hour drive. Two hours into it smoke was spewing into the cab of the motorhome. It’s much better to see smoke in a motorhome while driving than in an airplane while flying. Nevertheless, I pulled off the side of the … Read more…
