Month: July 2015

Seattle, Washington

July 30, 2015September 2, 2015 by Damon Janis

The fuel line repair took 5 days. I spent those days somewhat sequestered in a hotel. Going out and doing things didn’t have much appeal. So I did a lot of reflection and reading. I was able to come to some realizations about my life and get more clarity on some things I’ve been working … Read more…

Columbia River, Washington

July 26, 2015September 2, 2015 by Damon Janis

When I signed up over the phone to do volunteer work at this temple, my name was written down as Damon Jamin. One of the workers, John Trevino, saw that and told me he has a son named Jamin. He thought it was pretty neat to see someone with the last name matching his son’s … Read more…

Leaking Diesel Fuel

July 25, 2015September 2, 2015 by Damon Janis

Yesterday I left Spokane, driving toward Richland where the temple is located. It’s a three hour drive. Two hours into it smoke was spewing into the cab of the motorhome. It’s much better to see smoke in a motorhome while driving than in an airplane while flying. Nevertheless, I pulled off the side of the … Read more…

Selling The House

July 24, 2015July 25, 2015 by Damon Janis

Selling my house became official today. This closes an era of my life and I’m thoughtful and missing Tiffany today, like I do every day, but more so than usual. We lived in that house for 18 years. Ronald Osmonson came to my motorhome with all the paperwork. His wife Judy passed away from breast … Read more…

Spokane, Washington

I met Terry Folsom today, he volunteers at the temple. His name was interesting to me. One of my best and earliest friends in life is Doug Folsom. We share the same birthday and have kept in touch all these years. 50 years ago Terry lived about 100 miles north of Spokane in a little … Read more…

Bountiful, Utah

July 15, 2015September 2, 2015 by Damon Janis

You’ll want to see the aerial video for this temple (below). It’s the best I’ve done yet. The temple is up on a hill overlooking the valley and the Great Salt Lake, it’s pretty cool. The open house for this temple was in 1994. I went there with Tiffany and our four very young children (5,4,2,1). … Read more…

Jordan River, Utah

July 14, 2015September 2, 2015 by Damon Janis

Growing old. It’s what we all hope we get to do, yet most of us probably fear it too. I was in a waiting room of the Jordan River temple and a group of very elderly people came into the room. One of the men was surrounded by three women, and he was telling them … Read more…

Manti, Utah

July 7, 2015July 9, 2015 by Damon Janis

I visited the Manti, Utah temple today. The niece of my good friend was married there this morning and I attended the sealing. This temple is unique in many ways. What makes it special to me is that Tiffany and I were sealed there in 1987. Being there without her today was difficult. I walked … Read more…

Boise, Idaho

July 3, 2015September 2, 2015 by Damon Janis

Temple #3 completed today! That makes 3 in one week, off to a good start. The Boise temple has a unique layout, similar to Dallas and a few other temples built around the same time in the 1980’s. Everything is all on one level, and it was a little confusing to figure out how to … Read more…

Twin Falls, Idaho

July 2, 2015September 2, 2015 by Damon Janis

Before visiting the temple, I ate lunch at a local Mexican restaurant in Twin Falls named La Fiesta. Strangely their name wasn’t on the building, but there were two American flags flying. The food was good, and the color of paint worked for a Mexican restaurant. This temple looks much like the Rexburg temple. They were … Read more…
