Month: August 2015

St. George, Utah

August 22, 2015September 11, 2015 by Damon Janis

This temple was the first completed in Utah — 1877. I got to visit this temple with Tiffany’s brother and his wife, John and Val. They live in Hurricane (the locals pronounce it Her-ah-kun), about 10 minutes from St. George. It’s beautiful country here in southern Utah. Val has experienced the loss of both of her … Read more…

Las Vegas, Nevada

While at a large intersection waiting for a red light to change, a tall, very thin man walked very slowly across the sidewalk. He was using a walker to steady himself. He was terribly thin. Emaciated. It broke my heart because it reminded me of Tiffany as her body was near dying. I had purchased … Read more…

Los Angeles, California

The last few days have been a whirlwind. I visited and did volunteer work in 4 temples in 2 days! Redlands, San Diego, Newport Beach, and Los Angeles. To do it I left the motor home in Bakersfield, north of Los Angeles, and drove my Jeep down and stayed in hotels. I can move much … Read more…

Newport Beach, California

I was given advice today — get married. Unsolicited and from a credible source. How it came about: While working in the temple a small group of us were talking a bit. The subject came up of what happens after we die and what we can look forward to. I mentioned that my wife passed … Read more…

San Diego, California

August 18, 2015August 19, 2015 by Damon Janis

If you’ve ever driven through La Jolla, California on Highway 5, you’ve seen the San Diego temple. It’s brilliant, massive, and striking. My son Spencer moved to San Diego a couple weeks ago and we got to spend some time together. He helped do the aerial filming. This is his favorite temple. He also found … Read more…

Redlands, California

Let’s get a couple confessions out right up front. First, my daughter Emily is a Swiftie. So when I passed this truck on my way to Los Angeles, I had to take a picture for her. Here is what she texted upon receiving the picture, and I quote exactly: “OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH! SO … Read more…

Fresno, California

Last night at 10p I got a call from the repair shop telling me the motorhome was fixed. I was so looking forward to just taking my Jeep and leaving the motorhome behind for a week or two, it was actually disappointing they got it fixed so fast. Why did they have to work so … Read more…

Oakland, California

August 13, 2015September 2, 2015 by Damon Janis

I went to this temple for the first time when I was 6 months old, but I don’t remember. The next time I was 12 years old. It was the first temple I ever entered, so it has a special place in my heart. I remember clearly feeling the peace of God there and wanting … Read more…

Sacramento, California

August 8, 2015February 6, 2017 by Damon Janis

This temple is closed for maintenance until August 17, which explains why I’m not dressed up. I met more people at this temple than any other so far. When I arrived a family from Lincoln, California had just arrived with their children to walk around the temple. I asked them to take my picture. We … Read more…

Reno, Nevada

This temple is in the Nevada desert. You’ll see in the aerial video that it’s partially surrounded by a residential neighborhood and plain old desert. It’s up on a hill. My favorite shot in the aerial video is when I flew the drone up a hill towards the temple, then right over the temple. It’s … Read more…
