Tiffany and I visited this temple during her cancer treatments when we were staying in Scottsdale last year. We began to love the Phoenix area when just the two of us vacationed at the Four Seasons in Scottsdale a few years ago. That was our favorite trip alone together of all time. We didn’t know at … Read more…

Phoenix, Arizona

Last night I had dinner with Troy and Stacie Hansen, their nephew Jake, and my son Taylor. A home-made meal! It was delish. The Hansen’s have been very kind and supportive to my family in our difficult times. They had our family over for Thanksgiving in 2013 when we were staying in Scottsdale for Tiffany’s … Read more…

Tiffany and I visited this temple in February 2014, and again in March 2014. It had just opened and we were living temporarily in Scottsdale where Tiffany was receiving cancer treatment. You’d never know from this picture she was in the middle of chemo and radiation for terminal stage 4 colon cancer. She was energetic … Read more…

Snowflake, Arizona

Early this morning I rode my bike about 4 miles to the temple. Ah, it was marvelous! The ride was rejuvenating. Very peaceful, Snowflake is. Plus it has about the best name a place could have. Last night I ate dinner at Trappers, a local restaurant well known for it’s pies. The cherry cream pie … Read more…

Monticello, Utah

Controlling the Grieving Process (Or Not) I’m frustrated that I can’t control the timing of the grieving process. A couple months ago I thought I had processed the grief of Tiffany’s illness and death as much as I ever would. I felt ready to move forward in my life. I was doing well and out … Read more…

St. George, Utah

August 22, 2015September 11, 2015 by Damon Janis

This temple was the first completed in Utah — 1877. I got to visit this temple with Tiffany’s brother and his wife, John and Val. They live in Hurricane (the locals pronounce it Her-ah-kun), about 10 minutes from St. George. It’s beautiful country here in southern Utah. Val has experienced the loss of both of her … Read more…

Las Vegas, Nevada

August 21, 2015August 21, 2015 by Damon Janis

While at a large intersection waiting for a red light to change, a tall, very thin man walked very slowly across the sidewalk. He was using a walker to steady himself. He was terribly thin. Emaciated. It broke my heart because it reminded me of Tiffany as her body was near dying. I had purchased … Read more…

Los Angeles, California

August 19, 2015September 2, 2015 by Damon Janis

The last few days have been a whirlwind. I visited and did volunteer work in 4 temples in 2 days! Redlands, San Diego, Newport Beach, and Los Angeles. To do it I left the motor home in Bakersfield, north of Los Angeles, and drove my Jeep down and stayed in hotels. I can move much … Read more…

Newport Beach, California

August 19, 2015August 21, 2015 by Damon Janis

I was given advice today — get married. Unsolicited and from a credible source. How it came about: While working in the temple a small group of us were talking a bit. The subject came up of what happens after we die and what we can look forward to. I mentioned that my wife passed … Read more…

San Diego, California

August 18, 2015August 19, 2015 by Damon Janis

If you’ve ever driven through La Jolla, California on Highway 5, you’ve seen the San Diego temple. It’s brilliant, massive, and striking. My son Spencer moved to San Diego a couple weeks ago and we got to spend some time together. He helped do the aerial filming. This is his favorite temple. He also found … Read more…
